Nyon
Paddleboard coach in Nyon
Nyon sits halfway between Lausanne and Geneva, which makes it easier to staff than its size suggests — coaches travelling either direction pass through. The lakeside sports grounds at Colovray handle a lot of what happens here, and the vineyard roads of La Côte rising behind the town give running and cycling sessions a gradient without anyone having to drive anywhere.
It is a commuter town with a high proportion of international residents, many working in Geneva or for the sporting organisations based locally. Sessions cluster early morning and evening rather than midday. If you want a weekend morning, book further ahead than you would in the city — there is simply less capacity here.
Easier than it looks, harder than it looks
Standing up takes most people about ten minutes. Paddling in a straight line for an hour without your shoulders burning takes considerably longer, and that is what a session actually teaches — stroke technique, where to stand on the board, and how to turn without falling in.
Season and conditions
The lakes are paddleable from roughly May to October, and the best conditions are early morning before the thermal wind builds. Your coach picks the spot based on the wind that day, which matters more here than anywhere: an offshore breeze on a lake takes beginners a long way out very quickly.

Common questions
Will I fall in?
Probably, and it is part of it. Come in something you do not mind getting wet, and bring a towel.
Do I need to be a strong swimmer?
You should be comfortable in water. A buoyancy aid comes with the board and is worn by everyone in a first session.
Can two of us book?
Yes — choose the two-person session. It works well and boards are easier to manage as a pair.
