Paddleboard coach in Thun
Thun sits at the point where the Aare leaves its lake, with the Stockhorn and Niesen framing the view south and the Bernese Alps behind them. It is the practical gateway to the Oberland, which makes it the best base in German-speaking Switzerland for combining a lake session with mountain work on the same day.
The lake is deep, cold and reliably windy in the afternoon — excellent for sailing and paddleboarding, and the reason most water sessions here are scheduled for the morning.
Easier than it looks, harder than it looks
Standing up takes most people about ten minutes. Paddling in a straight line for an hour without your shoulders burning takes considerably longer, and that is what a session actually teaches — stroke technique, where to stand on the board, and how to turn without falling in.
Season and conditions
The lakes are paddleable from roughly May to October, and the best conditions are early morning before the thermal wind builds. Your coach picks the spot based on the wind that day, which matters more here than anywhere: an offshore breeze on a lake takes beginners a long way out very quickly.

Common questions
Will I fall in?
Probably, and it is part of it. Come in something you do not mind getting wet, and bring a towel.
Do I need to be a strong swimmer?
You should be comfortable in water. A buoyancy aid comes with the board and is worn by everyone in a first session.
Can two of us book?
Yes — choose the two-person session. It works well and boards are easier to manage as a pair.
